Olive Henry (1902-1989) As a native of Belfast, her involvement in painting and stained glass design began when she enrolled in night classes at the Belfast school of Art as a young girl. A career in this line of work developed when the owner of W. F. Clokey & Co., a predominant Belfast glass firm, offered her an apprenticeship on completion of her education at Victoria College. This was the beginning of a long and fruitful career lasting fifty-three years. Most of her time was spent designing windows; she seldom had the opportunity to produce the cartoons and paint the glass herself. Today she is primarily known for her career as an artist rather than stained glass designer despite her long service in this industry. From 1928 onwards she exhibited regularly at the Belfast Art Society, the Ulster Academy of Arts and at the Royal Ulster Academy and was a founder member and past president of the Ulster Society of Women Artists.
